“In recovery, my life is filled with stories. I hear them at every meeting; I share them when I qualify and when I sponsor. And at nine years sober, I now spin them on stage for the most attentive, loving audience one could ever hope for.” …
Jackie B is the founder and Artistic Director of Recovery Works Theater, a San Francisco-based theatrical company dedicated to sharing the experience, strength and hope of people recovering from alcoholism. Jackie began directing and writing twelve-step history plays in 2009, and her work has been seen by thousands of recovering alcoholics and addicts throughout California in a range of venues from convention centers to county jails. Rooted in rigorous research and a reverence for history. Jackie’s plays seek to create a living connection between the personal experiences of her artists and audiences and the lives of the recovered alcoholics and addicts who came before them. Her documentary-style play In Our Own Words: Pioneers of Alcoholics Anonymous toured Northern and Southern California for over two years and was presented in 2010 at the 13th International Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous in San Antonio, TX. She is a grateful recovering alcoholic and addict and has been sober since June 2006.
