Counseling and Therapy
The important aspect of rehabilitation from addictions that should be remembered is that dealing with the mind must be a careful process. In order to be careful enough for a person to shake free their attachments to substances, and regain balance in one's personal lifestyle, a treatment program should address the many sides of the human mind and its drives.
Speeds of the Mind
If a rehab program had only one kind of counseling (such as a group seated in a circle) then only one aspect of the mind, and an addictive pattern, is likely to get examined and cleared.
For that reason, for a comprehensive cure, Luxury Beach Rehab has developed an even-keeled platform of counseling modalities — you could say speeds — that all work together. The whole program offers each recovering addict a safe way to put their own mind in a fishbowl, examining it from every angle and direction and depth.
That is why the counseling experiences afforded at our center range from one-on-one attention given by an experienced therapist to the more ambient discovery process inspired by the Art Therapy sessions. There are other approaches to the mind, as well, including group rounds.
Targeting and Clearing
An addiction itself is an idiosyncratic cluster of ideas, memories, beliefs, fears, and so on — psychological debris that must be revealed, gathered and released.
Toward that end, our counseling program features two specialized sessions that we have found target the depths of addictive behaviors. One deals with traumas that coincided with a person's adoption of the addiction. Another deals with self-educating oneself about the physiological signs and emotional traces so that there cannot be relapses.
Once the person has learned their own triggers and can listen in, as it were, on internal dialogs, at a new depth of understanding, they become both resistant to falling back, and, more confident every day of going forward safely.
That much is logical enough, in psychological terms. Yet the imagination is more involved with addictive patterns than people may expect. Given that the imaginative power has been bound up and caught in addictive themes, there is a great benefit to allowing the imagination to run free again.
From All Sides
Art therapy, physical fitness, field trips, and especially the deeply comforting solitude each guest enjoys — apart from all the usual antagonists or irritating situations (all of which had provided reasons to drink or take a drug) — provide complete rejuvenation. Sobriety becomes a new adventure, and each person finds new sources of energy as their attachments — both physiological and mental — loosen and fall away.
All of these positive experiences, and ways to check oneself along the path to full recovery, amount to a comprehensive cure. Not only are the destructive behaviors and motivations cleared up and removed (dissolved, really), the recovering addict grows out of the very identity of addict, thereby restoring the healthy aspects of themselves.
And yet there is a fine line for any recovered addict to respect within: one must become realistic about the weakness, never cease to understand it better, until this vigilance becomes second nature — the addiction could be said to have been conquered at this point. Our treatment programs aim at nothing less than this authentic success with rehabilitation.
