Long Term Rehab
There are many types of rehabilitation programs available for people suffering from drug or alcohol addiction. Because each patient is unique, they often require different treatments. The duration of the treatment and whether the patient stays at the rehab center or visits the therapist as a day patient during the course of the treatment is dependent upon the history of addiction in the patient. Broadly, there are two types of rehab programs – short term and long term rehab programs.
What is long term rehabilitation?
A long term rehabilitation program for drug and alcohol addiction is one where the patient stays at the long term rehabilitation center for the entire duration of the treatment, which could go on for months. This is also called “inpatient rehab therapy”, and this is the treatment we offer at our alcohol and drug rehab center in Florida. During the entire course of the treatment, the patient is not allowed to work or live his/her regular life, but is expected to follow a controlled routine, with the recovery being the sole focus. Due to this, long term rehab is comparatively more effective than short term rehab.
Although the rehabilitation program for each patient is designed as per the history and extent of their addiction, most long term rehabs are of at least one to three months long. Others could even run up to a year and a half, or more. Throughout the entire duration, the patient is taught to live as per the discipline imposed and to incorporate healthy lifestyle changes into their daily life. The patient is also motivated to take responsibility for his/her life and must set goals for himself/herself and work towards achieving them.
The reason why these rehab programs are this long is because for most patients, the extent of addiction is so large that the detox period could cause serious withdrawal symptoms, which can be life threatening in certain cases, and hence require medical supervision. The first phase in a long term rehab program is an extended detox phase – a time where the patient is slowly weaned off the drug or alcohol.
The next phase is directed at the mind and soul of the patient. This is to treat the psychological addiction to drugs or alcohol and often involves individual and group counseling sessions, peer support, group activities and therapy, and so on.
Patients who have suffered from addiction for a long time often face the danger of relapsing back to their old habits despite the long term treatments. Hence, the recovery stage is extremely important. Patients require adequate time to immerse into and fully absorb a new lifestyle, physically as well as mentally.
Our tailor-made approach
Luxury Beach Rehab’s programs are unique and tailor-made for each individual, depending upon the history and extent of substance abuse in the client. Therefore, there will always be deviations in one’s rehab program ensuring that each patient is given the best level of care and support at all times. Have a chat with us and we will help you to decide upon a suitable course of treatment for you, in terms of the duration, pace and supplements that are required to get you through this difficult time.
Patients who tend to fall into a cycle of withdrawal and relapse, following an unsuccessful short term rehab program, are usually suggested to follow the long term program. This is because short term programs are not sufficient to treat their extent of addiction. If they have to completely recover from all the damage that has been caused to them physically and mentally, then there has to be a strong foundation for a new lifestyle. This requires a different mindset and mentality altogether. They have to go through a phase of introspection to be able to identify the roots of their addiction and be positively able to counter it in future. All of this requires a long time, and cannot be packed into a shorter, intensive program. A total recovery and a new life can only begin when the patient has undergone this entire journey.
We at Luxury Beach Rehab offer a holistic and comprehensive long term rehab in Florida, which enables our patients to heal permanently. Our programs ensure that the patient is treated not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually.
